It's Senior Cat Day!

We are off to an amazing start! We had a steady flow of donations in the morning,  had a little lull in the afternoon, but then knocked it out the park and blew past our awesome $5000 match!  Yesterday we raised over $11,000!  Thank you to everyone for your enthusiasm and generosity!  And a especially big thanks to our Awesome Anonymous Donor who offered up the match.

Throughout the FUNdraiser we always have days designated for specific causes or programs. It gives you a chance to give and have your donation go towards something you are passionate about.  Today will be the first of our "designated donation days" and all the money raised in the next 24 hours will go specifically to help the Senior Cats.  I know there are many Senior Cat lovers in this crowd - so I think this day will be HUGE!

Here's our old girl, Drewey.  She was a very special Senior who lived to be 18 years.  After she passed, many of you made a donation to the shelter in her honor, and so began the Senior Cat Fund.

WE all know how special Senior Cats are, but often people are shy to adopt them because Seniors can be at greater risk for medical issues and adopters may worry about potentially high vet bills and the woes that come with owning a cat with health problems. If the vet staff has the resources to get the Senior Cats healthier first, this ultimately makes the Seniors more "adoptable" and shortens their stay at the shelter.  And the sooner they get settled into their new homes and started on their new lives, the better.

Our donations today will help our vet staff do testing, procedures, blood work, dental work - whatever it takes to get this special population in top form! It will allow our doctors to go above and beyond and give the Seniors many more happy and healthy years!

Our dear friend Cynthia has a huge heart for all critters, but especially the precious Senior Cats, and today she is offering up an awesome $5000 matching donation challenge. For every dollar we donate, she will do the same until we reach the $5000 cap.  Isn't that just wonderful???!!!!    I have a feeling it won't be any trouble at all meeting this generous match - we love our Seniors! Last year we brought in over $12,000 on this day.  I hope we can do even better this year!

The matching donation challenge will end at 6:00 PM Pacific Time, but we're giving you a full 24 hours to donate to the Senior Cat fund.  So, every dollar that comes in before 8:00 AM tomorrow will help our special Seniors!

To make a tax-deductible donation, please visit our FUNdraising page.

Thank you so much!

There's lots to share today! I've got a couple of sweet Senior Cat stories, auctions, and of course our adorable kittens!  Stay close, friends!

Our first naming rights auction, I think, has broken a record! It's currently at $1450, and with over three hours to go, who knows how high it will climb!  SO exciting!!  If you want to get in on the action, here's the LINK.

  1. Thanks for giving us who love senior cats a special day to donate in their memories. I've been lucky to have a number of seniors (13, 16, 16, 17 and 21) to have loved. Currently I have 2 Maine Coons at 12 and 9ish (Sprite is shy about her actual age). While I adore kittens, I adopt adults now. Why? You can see their personality right away. And they have SO much love to share!!!!

  2. Thank you, Laurie, for making it possible for us to help improve the lives of senior cats. It's been a privilege to care for my beloved elderly cats, throughout their lives and in their last days. I made my donation in memory of my darling girls Perry, Echo, Clarabelle, and my sweet elderly gentleman, Max - all of whom were funny, feisty, and very, very loving.

  3. I adore the seniors. I've never had a kitten (maybe one day). All 3 cats in my life have been older. Casper is now just over 15 and Cocoabean, maybe around 8,we aren't sure but she's no kitten either and wasn't when we got her. Such loving and gentle cats - we won the jackpot on them!

  4. Thank you to all the people who give senior kitties homes!!! I love my senior kitties. I have 14 cats total and 11 of them are seniors. You wouldn't know it by looking at them though. They give my 3 youngsters a run for their catnip! Only one has bad teeth but we take him in twice a year to get his cleaned. The rest have perfect teeth. I sure lucked out, knock on wood.

  5. The Drewey photos always get me. She was lovely.

  6. The Drewey photos always get me. She was lovely.
I have had two elder kitties and treasured them even through the hard times.

  7. What a great day to celebrate senior kitties!
